WILKSCH FIRES FIRST SHOT AT CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER
Andy Wilksch scores double podium on Motul Pirelli Sherco 500 SEF Factory at AORC
Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2019 Australian Off-Road Championship proved to be extreme with dry and dusty conditions. Although challenging and arduous, the two-day sprint provided the Motul Pirelli Sherco Team with the opportunity to thrive.
Andy Wilksch raced to third and second place results in the E3 Class respectively over Saturday and Sunday aboard the Motul Pirelli Sherco 500 SEF Factory edition. The 22-year-old Victorian raced with purpose and composure to overcome a crash early in the opening day to cement his podium placings.
“It was a great weekend,” said Wilksch. “It’s a really solid start the season. It was hot and dusty and a good test of fitness, for sure. But I loved racing the Sherco 500. It’s a beauty of a bike and I must thank the Team for making my life so easy on race day. I feel good about my result and even though conditions were not good, we had a lot of fun.”
After two rounds, Wilksch holds second place in the Championship points standings and Team manager, Derek Grundy, is hopeful of a solid season ahead.
“Andy showed a lot of maturity this past weekend,” Grundy explained. “He really applied himself and the consistency in his times were rewarded with his podium results. It’s clear Andy has entered this season better prepared than ever before and we’ve provided him with our best bike yet. I’m feeling really positive about the results Andy and the Team are capable of this year.”
Wilksch will now set his attention towards rounds 3 and 4 of the Australian Off-Road Championship that will be held in Dungog, NSW, where the format will be two single-day traditional time card enduro events. The change of race format adding yet another element to the Championship.
